Mara, a 24 year old emet is intrigued by the number of people gorging themselves on ordinary milk until they vomit. This is her story.
I've been fascinated by the many photos and movies of people doing "The Gallon Challenge," where a group of people each drink a gallon of milk, sometimes not stopping even after they barf. I think if I were going to try to cure my emetophobia by making myself vomit, I would do the gallon challenge. Here's why. The stuff is safe and is its own emetic, so there's no need to worry about ipecac and what that drug can do to you. There are usually a lot of people doing it in those contests, and so I would have a chance to compare notes frmo them about what their vomiting was like before I'd have to do it myself. It doesn't look so bad for barfing. The girls I've seen have to barf when they have two quarts inside them. In a lot of the vomit pictures, the girls are holding half-empty milk jugs. In those pictures, it really looks like the whole two quarts coming up. Both alcohol and ipecac give different feelings before the vomit happens. With ipecac there is usually no nausea and with alchol the nausea can be missing because you are overwhelmed with other feelings of being drunk. I want to experience nausea if I try to make myself throw up, and I think milk is best at delivering nausea. Gallon challenges are social events, where a bunch of people try to make the records at once. Some want to win (make it through without vomiting) but others get rounds of applause to be the first one to spew, and to spew the most, and to spew the most times. Strange, but the gallon challenge girls always look so happy after they puke, but only a few of the drunk girls puking in pictures are. The vomit can't taste too bad since it's alsmost all milk.
What do you think, should I sign up for a gallon challenge? Should I practice at home first? I haven't urped in 14 years, so it will be anxious and exciting no matter what I do. Has anyone's emet been cured that way?
Comment by author: You make a good case for giving it a try. It seems safer than doing it by ipecac or alcohol. Emets have been cured using those things as emetics, but people have also been hurt by those emetics. I haven't heard a case of someone being cured by vomiting from milk. Maybe you can be the first!
Mara wrote this a few weeks later:
I did it! I took the gallon challenge and I feel cured of my emet. I was too anxious to do it in public so I did it at home alone. I drank down 7 or 8 large glasses of milk in about 30 minutes. I didn't measure them precisely, but the gallon of milk was more than half gone. The last couple of glasses were kind of hard to swallow, but I knew I had to do it. I only had a full feeling for a couple of minutes, and then I started to feel normal. Kind of like after Thanksgiving dinner. Then I drank most of another glass. Just as I was drinking that, a sick feeling came over me and I knew I would barf soon. I decided not to try fight it, like I normally do when I'm sick. I went right to the bathroom and got over the toilet. I was only there for a minute or two when I felt gagging start in my throat and my tongue started feeling all funny. My mouth watered a lot and I was overcome by a deep breath. Then I did it. Four waves of milk came out of my mouth. It was all milk! After it was done, I thought, "I did it! I did it! I barfed and I'm not afraid!" Then I retched again and there were two more waves of milk and a little bit of some other stuff. It was a really great feeling and I think I'm cured! I don't think I'll worry about vomiting or being sick again. I recommend the gallon challenge for anyone who wants to get over emet.
